Example

EXCEL to HTML: input and output

Four rows copied from a regional sales sheet, including an empty cell, a short row and markup-like characters.

Pasted cells (tab-separated)
Region	Q1	Q2	Notes
EMEA	1,240	1,395	Q2 includes "Nordics" & Baltics
APAC	980	1,110	<10% growth
LATAM	410
NA	2,050
HTML table
<table class="data-table">
  <thead>
    <tr>
      <th>Region</th>
      <th>Q1</th>
      <th>Q2</th>
      <th>Notes</th>
    </tr>
  </thead>
  <tbody>
    <tr>
      <td>EMEA</td>
      <td>1,240</td>
      <td>1,395</td>
      <td>Q2 includes &quot;Nordics&quot; &amp; Baltics</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td>APAC</td>
      <td>980</td>
      <td>1,110</td>
      <td>&lt;10% growth</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td>LATAM</td>
      <td>410</td>
      <td></td>
      <td></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td>NA</td>
      <td>2,050</td>
      <td></td>
      <td></td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>

The quotes, the ampersand and the < in the Notes column were escaped so they render as text; LATAM's empty Q2 and Notes cells became empty <td> elements, and the short NA row was padded out to four columns.

Spreadsheet to web page, minus the tedium

Publishing tabular data means hand-writing <tr><td> rows or fighting a CMS table widget — both painful past ten rows. Copy-paste-convert produces the whole table in seconds: semantic structure (thead/tbody), every cell HTML-escaped so data can't inject markup, and a class hook (.data-table) for one-rule CSS styling.

Need the data as data instead? The CSV to JSON converter is one click away in Related tools.

Why escaping makes this safe for real data

Spreadsheets contain surprises: product names with angle brackets, notes columns with ampersands, the occasional cell someone pasted HTML into. Naive table generators inject all of it straight into markup — a stored-XSS bug waiting for a page. This converter HTML-escapes every cell, so <script> in a spreadsheet renders as the literal text <script> on the page. That's the difference between a snippet you can paste into a CMS and one you have to audit first.

For recurring publishes — a weekly price list, a roster, a changelog — keep the spreadsheet as the source of truth and re-convert on each update; thirty seconds of paste-convert-paste replaces a table-widget wrestling match.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the EXCEL to HTML.

01How do I use the EXCEL to HTML?

Select your cells in Excel or Google Sheets, copy, paste into the input, press Convert. The clipboard's tab-separated data becomes a proper HTML table — first row as headers — with a rendered preview.

02How does pasting from Excel actually work?

When you copy spreadsheet cells, the clipboard carries them as tab-separated text — each row a line, each cell separated by a tab. This tool parses exactly that format, which is why paste-and-convert works from Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, and Numbers alike.

03How are merged cells, blank cells and rows with extra columns handled?

The clipboard carries a merged region as its top-left value followed by empty cells, so you get one filled <td> and empty <td></td> siblings — no colspan is inferred. Every row is normalized to the header's width: cells beyond it are dropped, short rows are padded with empty cells, and entirely blank lines are skipped. Each value is trimmed and escaped, but not typed — numbers stay left-aligned text, and a 1,240 with a thousands separator is kept exactly as Excel displayed it.
