Converting HEIC to JPG, explained
iPhones shoot HEIC by default — excellent compression, terrible compatibility: Windows, older software, and most upload forms reject it. This converter embeds the libheif decoder (compiled to run in your browser) to properly decode each HEIC, then re-encodes as high-quality JPG that opens absolutely everywhere.
Because decoding happens on your device, your photos — often the most personal files people convert — never touch a server. Batch a whole camera roll selection and save it in one click.
Live Photos, HDR, bursts and metadata: what survives the trip
An iPhone camera roll contains more than plain stills. A Live Photo is a HEIC plus a separate MOV — the HEIC converts to a normal JPG and the video half is simply not involved. HDR photos shot on recent iPhones carry a gain map that makes highlights glow on the phone's display; the libheif decoder produces a standard-dynamic-range image, so the converted JPG looks the way the photo does on a non-HDR screen. Portrait-mode depth data is discarded. A HEIC container holding several images (some burst exports) yields its primary image. ProRAW shots are DNG files, not HEIC — use RAW to JPG for those.
The decoder does not copy metadata: the JPG has no EXIF, so capture date, GPS location and lens details are gone, and the file's timestamp becomes the moment you saved it. Sort by filename rather than date afterwards — IMG_2041.HEIC becomes IMG_2041.jpg, so order is preserved. When metadata matters (insurance claims, photo archives), the workaround is on the phone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible makes the iPhone shoot JPG with full EXIF, and AirDrop or a Photos export can transcode with metadata intact. For everything else — uploads, email, Windows machines — this converter's 92% JPGs at full resolution are the quicker path.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the HEIC to JPG.
01Which HEIC files can be converted — iPhone, Samsung, Live Photos, ProRAW?
Any still HEIC/HEIF that libheif can decode, which covers iPhone, iPad and Samsung camera output. A Live Photo converts its still frame (the paired MOV is not involved), a burst container yields its primary image, and an HDR photo's gain map is dropped so the JPG looks the way the photo does on a non-HDR screen. ProRAW shots are DNG, not HEIC — use RAW to JPG for those.
02Why won't my HEIC photos open on Windows?
HEIC needs licensed HEVC codecs that Windows doesn't ship by default. Rather than buying codec packs per machine, converting to JPG once solves it everywhere — email, Office, web uploads, grandma's laptop.
03Does conversion keep the photo's full quality?
Full resolution, yes, with JPG encoding at 92% quality — visually transparent for photos. Live Photos convert their still frame; bursts convert each file you select.
