Converting PDF to JPG, explained

This converter embeds pdf.js — the same PDF engine inside Firefox — to render every page of your document at 2× resolution, then encodes each page as a separate JPG (name-p1.jpg, name-p2.jpg, …). The per-card progress bar counts pages as they render, and the card's Save button grabs the whole set.

PDFs are precisely the files people shouldn't upload to random converters — contracts, statements, IDs. Here the document never leaves your machine; you can convert offline once the page is loaded.

Page sizes, file sizes, and the PDFs that refuse

Rendering at scale 2 means 144 pixels per inch, since PDF measures pages in 72-point inches: a US Letter page becomes 1224×1584 pixels, A4 becomes 1191×1684. Pages are painted onto white first — PDF pages have no background of their own — then written as JPG at quality 92. A text-only page typically weighs 150–350 KB, a scanned photo page 500 KB to a megabyte. Text pages render in a fraction of a second; scans and vector-heavy drawings take longer, and every page stays in memory until saved, so a 300-page manual is best done in chunks. Output names follow the source: report.pdf becomes report-p1.jpg, report-p2.jpg and so on.

Password-protected PDFs stop with an error rather than a prompt; open the file in any viewer with the password and print it to a new PDF to remove the protection, then convert that. Form fields you filled in but never saved will not appear, because only stored content renders. Fonts that were never embedded are substituted, which can shift line breaks slightly. Very large pages — posters, engineering drawings at 36×48 inches, which would be 5184×6912 pixels — can exceed the canvas limits of phones and tablets, so convert those on a desktop browser. For crisp text pages where file size is secondary, PDF to PNG produces sharper letterforms.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the PDF to JPG.

01What resolution are the pages rendered at, and can I change it?

144 pixels per inch — pdf.js renders at scale 2 and PDF measures pages in 72-point inches — so a US Letter page becomes 1224×1584 pixels and A4 1191×1684. The scale is fixed on this page. That is sharp for screens, chat and OCR of body text; for 300 DPI print-quality renders use a desktop tool. Each page is painted onto white first, then written as JPEG at quality 92.

02How are multi-page PDFs handled?

Every page converts, each to its own numbered JPG — the card's Save button downloads all of them (the count shows on the button). A 30-page document yields 30 images with one click.

03What quality are the rendered pages?

Pages render at twice their PDF point size — roughly 150 DPI equivalent — sharp for screens, sharing and OCR. Text-heavy pages look noticeably cleaner than typical 'fast' converters that render at 1×.
