Example
HTML Editor: input and output
A one-line signup form — Format splits it into readable lines before you keep editing.
<form action="/subscribe" method="post" class="newsletter"><label for="email">Email</label><input id="email" name="email" type="email" placeholder="you@example.com" autocomplete="email" required><button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary" data-analytics="newsletter-signup">Subscribe</button></form><form action="/subscribe" method="post" class="newsletter">
<label for="email">Email</label
><input
id="email"
name="email"
type="email"
placeholder="you@example.com"
autocomplete="email"
required
/><button
type="submit"
class="btn btn-primary"
data-analytics="newsletter-signup"
>
Subscribe
</button>
</form>
Because the <input> and <button> opening tags run past 80 columns, prettier placed their attributes one per line while the shorter <form> and <label> tags stayed on one line; the closing bracket of </label> pushed onto the next line is prettier refusing to insert whitespace between adjacent inline elements.

Editing HTML without a project setup
Sometimes you need to fix one email template or prototype one component — and spinning up an editor, extensions, and a dev server is overkill. This page is the shortcut: a real editing engine (Monaco), prettier formatting, structural validation, and a rendered preview, all in one tab that works offline once loaded.
Files round-trip cleanly: drag one in, edit, download — nothing stored anywhere in between.
An editor that's actually an editor
Most "online HTML editors" are textareas with syntax coloring. This one runs the Monaco engine — the same component inside VS Code — which means multi-cursor editing, find-and-replace with regex, bracket matching, auto-closing tags, code folding for long documents, and keyboard shortcuts your hands already know (Ctrl+D, Alt+Click, Ctrl+/). For the fix-one-file tasks this page targets, that difference is minutes versus seconds per edit.
Pair it with the structural validator before downloading: Format, Validate, Preview is a thirty-second pre-flight that catches the unclosed tag a visual check misses.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the HTML Editor.
01How do I use the HTML Editor?
Type or paste HTML — highlighting and auto-closing work as you'd expect from VS Code. Press Format to clean up, and keep the output pane on Preview to watch the page take shape.
02Can I use this as a lightweight CodePen?
For HTML and CSS, yes — write markup with embedded <style> and the preview renders it live. The deliberate difference: scripts are sandboxed off, so it's a markup/styling scratchpad rather than a JS playground. Download the file when you're happy with it.
03Does the editor support Emmet abbreviations like div.card>p*2?
Monaco ships without Emmet, and this page does not add it. What the HTML language mode does give you: auto-closing tags, tag and attribute completion, bracket matching, code folding, multi-cursor editing and regex find-and-replace, with word wrap on and a two-space tab. Format runs prettier's HTML parser at the indentation you pick, including the CSS and JavaScript inside <style> and <script>. For abbreviation-driven authoring, expand the markup in your own editor and paste it here to format and preview.
